November 30, 2026, Monday, Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle
Matthew 4:18–22
As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. (Matt 4:18-20)*
He flew from New York back home.
His father met him at the airport. From there, they travelled several hours to his hometown. Neither said much.
At home, his mother and two brothers were waiting. They talked, ate together, and caught up on the news.
Eventually, his brothers left.
He remained at the table with his parents.
His father asked:
“So, why did you come back? What are your plans?”
“I met Jesus, and I am going to become a missionary.”
His parents were shocked.
“You found Jesus in New York?” his father asked.
“Yes. On Long Island.”
“Of all the places on earth, you met Jesus in New York? On Long Island?”
He just nodded.
“How long will it take?” his father asked.
“Seven years.”
“I don’t think you’ll last.”
He said nothing.
He placed all the money he had earned in front of his parents.
“For you,” he said.
A few days later, he left to follow Jesus.
